The short answer

Greece can be enjoyed at a gentle pace with planning. The Acropolis has a lift and step-free route, many sites have accessible paths, and a private vehicle with a driver avoids steps, queues and long walks. Choose flat bases such as Athens, Nafplio and Chania, and avoid hill-town stairs such as Oia’s steep lanes in peak heat.

Plan around the terrain

Greece’s heritage sites are often built on hillsides with uneven stone. We choose routes with the least walking, arrange drop-offs close to entrances, and keep days short. Beaches with accessible boardwalks are available on several islands.

Pace and rest

We keep early starts to a minimum, schedule a long lunch and a rest in the afternoon, and book hotels with lifts and step-free access.

Frequently asked questions

Is Santorini suitable for older travellers?

It can be, if you pick a hotel with a lift and avoid the steps down to Amoudi Bay or the Fira cable-car queues at peak times.

Can wheelchairs be accommodated?

In many cases yes. Tell us the type of mobility aid and we will check each site and vehicle in advance.
